We finally got a trailer and more information about Remnant 2’s 3rd DLC, Dark Horizon. In this highly anticipated and final (announced) DLC for REMNANT II, releasing September 24th, Dark Horizon brings players back to the mysterious world of N’Erud. You’ll uncover a new location, preserved in time, overrun by rogue AI and robotic enemies. The Dark Horizon is priced at $9.99 or available in the $24.99 DLC bundle along with The Awakened King and The Forgotten Kingdom.

New Archetype – “The Warden”

Just like the first and second Remnant 2 DLC, Dark Horizon will introduce a brand-new archetype, named The Warden. From the sneak peek we get in the trailer, it seems like this class will be another type of Engineer. Maybe a bit more corrupt than the original Engineer class because you can see they’re infected with a bit of darkness. You also see the Warden deploy a fully automated drone. This drone can shield, heal, or attack enemies and most likely you’ll have to choose between those 3 skills. We’ll learn more next week in the new archetype reveal trailer. Make sure to check back here for a full breakdown.

Glider Traversal System

Of course, we’ll be getting brand new Dungeons and Bosses in the Dark Horizon DLC, but they also mentioned a new GLIDER TRAVERSAL SYSTEM just for the new overworld in N’Erud. I’m sure this will add a new layer of secrets to the world, and they also mention that you’ll be able to use this new system to decide how you want to face off against the new world boss. Do you want to fight his head or his toes? LOL We’ll see how it all pans out.

New Game Mode – Boss Rush

The Dark Horizon DLC also brings along a huge FREE UPDATE including a brand-new game mode and revamped fragment progression system.

Here’s what they say about the new Prisms system. “Prisms are a new feature to the rebalanced fragment system and can be leveled up to grant additional stat bonuses.“ We’ll see if you level them up similar to the old fragment system, where you just found upgraded versions based on world difficulty and archetype level, or if this will be a new system and introduce a new chase for power.

Finally, let’s talk about the new game mode coming to Remnant 2 on September 24th with the Dark Horizon DLC. This new game mode is completely free for everyone! Unfortunately, it’s not the fan favorite Survival from Remnant: From the Ashes, but we are getting a Boss Rush game mode. But don’t worry just yet, I think it’s a bit more involved than it seems at first glance. 

You can play Boss Rush solo or multiplayer and can choose from three difficulty options:

• Triple Threat (3 bosses)
• Trial by Fire (7 bosses)
• The Gauntlet (19 bosses)

The gameplay loop is: 1. fight hordes of enemies, including an Aberration, 2. go up against bosses to earn their drops. My one big request is that the Aberration drops corrupted shards, at least in the higher levels, because this would be a great way to farm for all the Corrupted weapons. Also, the ability to grab boss weapons that you’re missing, without having to run the entire story, definitely appeals to people that are unlocking corrupted weapons and want to earn back the originals.

Next, Gunfire Games says “Along the way, you will earn temporary buffs during the run that grant stat bonuses and/or powerful passive bonuses as well that will prove to be helpful.” So as the enemies and bosses get tougher, you can choose to buff yourselves through choices each round.

This image shows an example of the buffs you will select after each round. We don’t know yet how much these cost, how to gain currency, what you gain from skipping the buff, etc. We need to see more about the Boss Rush game mode, but I trust that Gunfire Games knows how to make it awesome.
